Topic of 2022 : “My Community, My Home”
1.Mission
Writing to your representatives about social issues gives applicants an opportunity to learn about current social issues and see different perspectives. This will encourage them to create a positive impact on social challenges, promote better integration into society, cultivate their ability and leadership to build stronger, more harmonious, and more resilient communities, and become pillars of society and future leaders.
2.Description
“My Community, My Home” will help school students identify factors affecting community safety, explore exciting thinking, discover solutions, make a difference in the community, and lay the foundation for their future success.

Competition Rules
- The contestants need to be current high school students with American citizenship.
- Every work that has been submitted needs to be original, any work involved with plagiarism would be disregarded.
Judges & Mentors
Introduction to Judges & Mentors
Yuan Foundation has the honor to invite judges from different areas to review the letters. And the judges will score the letters by the following rules:
- The quality and effectiveness of the contestant’s suggestions.
- The social responsibility of the letters.
- The probability of a successful launch.
Training Program
- Definition and methods of civic engagement
- The tools, guidance, and roll-out of writing a proposal letter
- Get to know the responsibilities and rights of the government and be a citizen
- The roll-out of case studies
- Identify issues you found concerning in community
- Conduct research about the issues, including the background, stakeholders, and the reasons behind them.
- Constructing a detailed roll-out plan
- Write down and organize the ideas into an official letter
The “Write to Representative” Competition would provide training opportunities for the applicants, including research guidance.
Participants will have the opportunity to receive:
Face-to-face communication with representatives from the Capital Hill
Learn the logistics of policymaking
Understand how the national system works
Connection with peers and experts from multiple areas
